Chris Whinery has nearly 30 years’ experience in oil and gas. His experience dates back to 1990 when he began his career as an oil and gas landman in Texas. Between 1998 and 1999, Chris majored in Law and Oil & Gas Studies at the University of Oklahoma. Chris also holds a Project Land Management Certificate from the University of Houston.
Immediately before joining Vanguard’s team, Chris spent nearly 10 years managing and supervising crews of oil and gas landmen in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, and New York. The work included large transmission and pipeline ROW, running title, and 3-D seismic projects. During this time, Chris’ clients included AEP-PSO, Quanta, PPL, First Energy, Burns & Mac, Sunoco, NiSource, Magellan, Chesapeake, Atlas, XTO Energy, Williams (WPX), and Burnett Oil.
Chris also has extensive experience with the oil and gas industry in Louisiana. Between 1992 and 1996, Chris provided landman services in Louisiana for various clients, including UPRC and Shell. His time in Louisiana gave Chris the opportunity to become familiar with Napoleonic Law, such as prescription, usufruct, naked ownership, and dual title. Chris was quickly promoted to supervisor of a crew of landmen. His team prepared, negotiated, and recorded leases and options with respect to more than 100,000 acres of land.
Chris is an exceptional addition to Vanguard’s team, and his nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry is invaluable to Vanguard’s oil and gas clients.
